Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred for overnight accommodation at Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel 4 stars or Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort in Marangu village. Your head guide will meet you for your briefing, gear check and arrange for you to hire any equipment you may need.

Departing from Moshi is an 1 hour drive which will take you through the Village of Marangu to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate or 10 minutes drive from Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort. We will patiently wait for our permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for the journey ahead Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and quite slippery. We highly recommend gaiters and trekking poles here. FB

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut 8.3KM /5MI | 4-5 HRS | RAINFOREST

Elevation: 2723m/8934ft to 3721m/12,208ft

After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast, we emerge from the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, through heathland, looking for giant lobelias and groundsels. Continue up into open moorlands where small shrubs are the main vegetation. Stop halfway for lunch, to enjoy amazing views of Mawenzi. Arrive at the Horombo Huts late afternoon beneath the spectacular Kibo Summit viewpoint. Temperatures begin to drop.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut  12.5KM/7.8MI | 6-8HRS | MOORELAND

You can spend a full day and a second night at Horombo. On this day, you can either rest at the huts or take a stroll up to the Mawenzi base camp then return to the Horombo Huts. This extra day will help your acclimatization, and further your understanding of the mountains weather and altitude. After your pause, you will continue up to the Kibo Huts on your fourth day for your midnight start to the summit.

Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Elevation: 3721m/12,208ft to 4714m/15,466ft

After breakfast, we continue on through the dwindling heathland that blends into a moonscape as you enter the sweeping saddle connecting Mawenzi and Kibo. Here while we stop for lunch, and later when you cross this surprisingly large saddle, you can examine the summit climb up Kibo that you will be starting in just a few hours.

HOROMBO HUTS- KIBO HUTS: 10.5KM/6MI | 6-8HRS | SEMI-DESERT

Elevation: 4714m/15,466ft to 5895m/19,341ft

Excitement is building as morning comes with an early start between midnight and 2 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.
We continue our way to the summit in a switchback formation through trying to stay warm and focused on the amazing sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. With a switchback motion, we ascend through heavy scree and possibly snow towards Gillman’s Point on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise during your short rest here. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From here on your remaining 1 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, you are likely to encounter snow all the way.
Congratulations,  you have now reached Uhuru Peak the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!
After photos, celebrations and maybe a few tears of joy we take a few moments to enjoy this incredible accomplishment. We begin our steep

KIBO HUTS – SUMMIT: 6.25KM /3.9 MI UP | 5-7HRS | – HOROMBO HUTS: 15.75KM /9MI DOWN | 5-6HRS

Elevation: 3721m/12,208 to 1905m/6250ft

After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew, it’s time to say goodbye. We continue the descent down stopping at the Mandara Huts for lunch. Remember to tip your guides, cooks, and porters, since you will be leaving them here. You return back to the Marangu Park Gate and receive your summit certificates. As the weather is drastically warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy and steep and we highly recommend Gaiters and trekking poles. From the gate, a vehicle will meet you to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi or Marangu. Enjoy a long overdue hot shower, dinner and celebrations!!

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate 20KM/12.5MI |6-7HRS | RAINFOREST Elevation: 3721m/12,208 to 1905m/6250ft

Transfer to airport and either fly back home or to add another activities such as Zanzibar Beach or Wildlife Safari to Kenya and Tanzania.

Mount Kilimanjaro Climb - Marangu Route 8 Days

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will meet an HEC Kilimanjaro and Safaris representative, and transfer to the hotel . The hotel will provide all the essentials for a comfortable stay: cozy rooms, hot water, polite staff, a swimming pool, and Internet access. In the evening there will be a briefing with our guides, who will also make sure you are ready to begin the climb.

Machame Gate – Machame Campsite FB
Elevation: 1200m to 1700m to 3000m.
Distance: 13 km.
Hiking time: 5-7 hours.

Habitat: Montane forest.

After breakfast our vehicle will transport you from the hotel to Machame gate. Here you will do the required registration procedures then you will start the trek through the rain-forest to Machame camp where you will find the tents are already setup for you. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 2

Machame Hut Campsite to Shira Campsite
Elevation: 3000m to 3800m
Distance: 9km
Hiking time: 6-7 hours

Habitat: Moorland.

After breakfast leave the camp and continue ascending by crossing little valleys and steep rocky ridges covering with heather plants to the western side of the mountain where the camp is situated. At this camp you will be able get the spectacular view of Mount Meru, Shira Plateau, Kibo Peak and sunset; then dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Shira Campsite to Barranco Campsite
Elevation: 3800m to 3950m.
Distance: 13km
Hiking time: 5-7 hours

Habitat: Moorland.

This is long and important acclimatization day so you will be having an early breakfast then continue trekking east to a junction leading to Lava tower rock 4600m for acclimatization, you will have lunch here at Lava tower and Afterwards you will continue down to Barranco camp. The camp location is in the bottom valley of Barranco wall where you will stop for dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Barranco Campsite to Karanga Campsite
Elevation: 3950m to 3900m
Distance: 6 km
Hiking time: 3-4 hours.

Habitat: Moorland

Today is short day walk. In the morning you will start climbing Barranco wall and reach 4200m for acclimatization and continue crossing ridges and valleys to Karanga campsite for hot lunch. After lunch you will have a bit of rest and get another acclimatization of trekking up the scree slopes towards the southern ice field. You will then return to the camp for supper and overnight.

Day 5

Karanga Campsite to Barafu Campsite
Elevation: 3900m to 4620m.
Distance: 8 km.
Hiking time: 3-4 hours.

Habitat: Alpine Desert.

On this day, the trek up to the Barafu ridge campsite is tough because of altitude. The walk take few hours because of the short distance but it is steep thus needs a slow pace to avoid fatique. You will trek across an alpine desert. Chances are that a strong, cold wind will be blowing from Kibo peak and its ice. You will have dinner at the elevation of 4620 meters then rest until midnight when you will attack the summit.

Day 6

Barafu Hut Campsite / Uhuru Peak / Mweka Campsite Elevation: 4620m to 5895m to 3100m
Distance: 15km
Hiking time: 10 – 12 hours

Habitat: Desert and ice.

Wake at midnight to a light breakfast and then prepare for your summit ascent. The goal is to climb before dawn so that you can reach Uhuru Peak shortly before or after sunrise. The trails is a series of switchbacks up steep scree or possibly snow, and reach Stella Point on the crater rim at 5,861 m/18,640 ft between 4 and 5 AM. At this point you will be having the views of the fabled crater and its glaciers facing you. Then after 1 hour of hiking along the Kibo crater rim near the celebrated snows takes you to Kilimanjaro true summit, Uhuru Peak. Here you will spend some times for taking photo’s but it will depend on how you feel. After your summit activities done, you will descend back to the Barafu campsite, for lunch, rest, collect your equipment, and continue down through moorland and heath zone to Mweka campsite.

Day 7

Mweka Campsite to Mweka Gate.
Elevation: 3100m to 1700m
Distance: 9km
Descending time: 3-4 hours

Habitat: Montane forest.

Today is your last day on the mountain. After breakfast you will descend down to Mweka park gate walking across Montane forest. This descent will take 3-4 hours. Here at the gate you will sign out and get ready to board the vehicle ready for the transfer back to the hotel for your certificate presentation and a well deserved celebration.

Day 8

Transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to your journey home or Wildlife safari to Serengeti National Park or a relaxing trip to Zanzibar.

The path follows a ridge between two deep valleys up through the dense montane forest. The camp is perched between huge trees and thick undergrowth.

UMBWE GATE – UMBWE CAVE: 9.6KM/6MI | 6-8HRS | MOORLAND

Elevation: 2944m/9659ft to 3986m/13,077ft | Altitude gained: 1042m

After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast we emerge from the rain forest and continue on a steep ascending path, along the Umbwe ridge as it descends slightly to Barranco camp situated in the valley. Temperatures begin to drop.

UMBWE CAVE – BARRANCO CAMP: 4.75KM/3MI | 4-6HRS | MOORLAND

Elevation: 3986m/13,077ft to 4034m/13,235ft | Altitude gained: 48m

After breakfast, we continue on a steep ridge up the adventurous Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and the junction, which connects, with the Mweka Trail. This is one of the most impressive days to see the power, agility, and strength of your crew zip over this wall with what appears such ease. Overnight at Karanga Camp.

BARRANCO CAMP – KARANGA CAMP: 5.2KM/3MI | 3-4HRS | ALPINE DESERT

Elevation: 4034m/13,235ft to 4662m/15,295ft | Altitude gained: 628m

We continue up toward Barafu Camp, and once reached you have now completed the Southern Circuit, which offers a variety of breathtaking views of the summit from many different angles. An early dinner and rest as we prepare for summit night. Overnight at Barafu Camp.

KARANGA CAMP – BARAFU CAMP: 3.3KM /2 MI | 3-4HRS | ALPINE DESERT

Elevation: 4662m/15,295ft to 5895m/19,341ft | Altitude gain: 1233m | Descent to 3106m/10,190ft | Altitude lost: 2789m

We continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers trying to stay warm and focused of the amazing sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. With a switchback motion in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise during your short rest here. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From here on your remaining 1 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, you are likely to encounter snow all the way. Congratulations, one step at a time you have now reached Uhuru Peak the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!

BARAFU CAMP – SUMMIT: 4.86KM /3MI UP | 5-7HRS | – MWEKA CAMP: 11.5KM /7.1MI DOWN | 5-6HRS | GLACIERS

Elevation: 3106m/10,190ft to 1633m/5358ft | Altitude lost: 1473m

After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew it’s time to say goodbye. We continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. As the weather is drastically warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy and steep and we highly recommend Gaiters and trekking poles. From the gate, a vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 30 minutes).

MWEKA CAMP – MWEKA GATE – MOSHI: 9.1KM/5.7MI |3-4HRS | RAINFOREST

The day is left free to wind down after the trek before your flight home. Depending on flight times you could go and explore Moshi town and grab some souvenirs before heading to the airport.
