Itinerary
Welcome to Kathmandu
Before your trip, we must ensure that all paperwork and other preparations are made. We will also have a meet-up and pre-trip discussion with the trek guide in our office.
Note: Your accommodation in Kathmandu must be arranged on your own. It is best to schedule a few extra days in Kathmandu as flights to Lukla occasionally experience delays, putting you at risk of missing your international flight.
Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, 30 min flight (25 minutes). Trek to Phakding
We will meet at Tribhuvan Domestic Airport, Kathmandu, for a flight to Lukla. The exact time will be communicated to you by this evening. Typically, less than an hour to Lukla offers you the most spectacular view in fairly straightforward weather. In the clear morning, the Himalayan views toward the northern side and the rugged foothills immediately stretching southward are incredible.
After the necessary luggage arrangement and landing at Lukla airport, you will head northwest through Lukla village. Eventually, trekkers will reach the Dudh Koshi River, which is the endpoint of the trek at Phakding.
Trek from Phakding to Namche
The path ascends the valley beside the stream, passing past other tiny towns, evergreen forests, and regions of trees. A further two to three hours of hiking will lead you to Chumoa (2,743m), a charming settlement of around 25 homes at the base of Mountain Thamserku (6,608m) and close to the entrance to the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park.
Once you cross Monjo Khola (River), you shortly arrive in Monjo. Shortly after departure from Manjo, the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park will have arrived at Jorsale. You continue after the completion of the necessary entry formalities. Your trails continue alongside the river, arriving at the confluence of the Imja River and the Nangpo River, the Dudh Koshi River.
Acclimatization Day in Namche
Namche, one of the most prosperous towns, is a beautiful sherpa village decorated with several Himalayan peaks, mainly Thamserku (6,608 m) to the east and Kwangde (6,224 m) to the west. Khumbu Yul Lha (5761 m). Khumbu Yul Lha, which dominates the skyline to the north behind the village, is the most sacred peak to locals. Namche mingles with cafes, handicraft shops, mountaineering gear shops, and foodstuffs, among others. Observe within; lethargy and its consequences may be due to altitude gain.
Be more conscious of walking up the hill to the Sagarmatha National Park headquarters and visiting the NP museum. From this hilltop, better views of Sagarmatha (Everest) and Ama Dablam can be observed reasonably straightforwardly. The hike can be extended to Khumjung village (3780 m).
Trek from Namche to Tengboche
After leaving Khunde, hikers pass through Khumjung, where chortens provide a dramatic backdrop to their view of Ama Dablam (6,856 m), and Kangtega (6685 m), flanked by the towering heights of Sagarmatha (Everest), Lhotse and Nuptse. You might have the opportunity on the route to stop by the historic gompa that is tucked away in a forest near Khumjung. The Yeti scalp is safely stored in a case like this one.
Keep an eye out for blood pheasants and stunning Impeyan pheasants as you make your way down from the village, first through walled farms and then through moss-covered rhododendron forest. You then descend through rhododendrons and blue pine forests to the settlement of Trashinga before continuing to Phungithanga, 3,250 m/10,663 ft, with its prayer wheels, where you cross the Dudh Kosi.
Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche
If not yesterday, you left Thyangboche after visiting the monastery. The path descends through forests to Dingboche, where a visit to the charming little nunnery is highly recommended. More cottages and “mani” walls may be seen as the path meanders down the river valley between the woods.
After passing a bridge over a beautiful gorge, the trail gradually climbs, offering breathtaking vistas of Ama Dablam in the distance. In both directions, there are many fantastic photo opportunities and frequently passing chortens and mani walls as one gains height to approach the village of Pangboche. This village is charming, with fields enclosed by stone walls and an intriguing monastery perched high in the town.
The Khumbu region’s oldest monastery, possibly dating back to when Buddhism was first introduced there, is this one. A “yeti” claw and scalp were once stored here, but they were stolen a while back.
Acclimatization Day in Dingboche
From Dingboche, there are numerous chances for fascinating acclimatization walks. The ridge behind the settlement can be climbed on foot for a strenuous ascent of Naga Dzong Ri. The climb up to the peak of this mountain, which is 5,083 meters high and offers breathtaking views of Makalu and Amphu Laptse, is steep but not technically challenging.
On the way down, you can stop at Nagartsang Gompa, a tiny temple with a pleasant, protected terrace where you can take in the scenery. You will arrive in the village in time for lunch. You might want to stroll over to the Himalayan Rescue Association clinic in the town of Pheriche in the afternoon because one of the doctors there frequently discusses high-altitude acclimation. If none of these choices appeal to you, you can take a 4-5 hour round trip hike up the valley to the yak grazing meadows at Chukhung, 4,730m.
Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche
This morning, you climb the mountain to a sizable Chorten above the settlement of Dingboche, and from there, it is a short hike onto a broad, green plateau. You can see Pheriche town in the valley down to your left and the peaks of Tawoche and Cholatse tower above you. You arrive at a jumble of boulders marking the terminal moraine at the base of the Khumbu glacier in the quaint village of Duglha. To get to the summit of this mountain, which has many memorial cairns honoring those who have lost their lives climbing Everest, you must ascend it steeply.
Now that the scenery is untamed and rugged, it truly feels like you are in the mountains. You quickly arrive at the collection of homes at Lobuche by following the creek (frequently frozen) at one side of the moraine. This somewhat desolate area was formerly a yak-grazing village that was only occupied in the summer. Now, however, it is open all winter long to serve trekkers and climbers and as the starting point to Kala Pattar.
Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep (Afternoon hike to Kalapatthar)
You will be in the best location at Gorak Shep to climb Kala Pattar in the early evening before clouds roll in to hide Everest’s summit. Although not far, it is a challenging ascent that takes around two to three hours before you reach Kala Pattar’s rocky top, which is the highest point of your walk at 5,545 meters. Today will fulfill your desire to see the magnificent, captivating Everest.
This desire to exist or interest in doing so often strongly focuses on “being in the state of wholeness.” Great views of Everest, the Himalayan giants Pumori (7,145m), Changtse (4,501m), Nuptse, Lhotse, and countless other needles and snow-fluted ridges may be had from the summit of Kala Patthar. In the late spring climbing season, you can also see the Khumbu glacier, where the base camp is situated. After that, you will descend to Gorak Shep.
Trek from Gorak Shep to Pheriche (Morning hike to EBC)
There may be mountaineering parties or yaks hauling supplies along the trail during the climbing season, but there are only a series of little cairns at other times. After a few hours, you arrive at the base camp region, from which you have magnificent up-close views of the scary Khumbu icefall and the surrounding landscape of ice seracs and fallen boulders, even though you cannot see the actual Everest summit from here.
The trip back to Gorak Shep will seem particularly far away at this height and drain your remaining energy. Take the path back to Lobuche from Gorak Shep. Rather than taking the way back to Dingboche, you descend to the bottom of the flat valley after leaving Lobuche and continue on the path until you reach Dughla. The town of Pheriche, where you will spend the night, is a short stroll from the accommodation.
Trek from Pheriche to Namche
As you descend, today will seem more laid-back than the previous few days! For lunch, you travel down to Pangboche. If you did not have time to visit the gompa during your ascent, you should now. After lunch, you can travel from Pangboche to a beautiful high trail that passes above the Imja Drengkha River.
This path wiggles along the side of the valley, providing stunning views of the surrounding mountains and Thyangboche, perched on its ridge. Look out for Himalayan Thar grazing amid the boulders and vultures circling overhead, including Lammergeier vultures, Himalayan griffon vultures, and golden eagles.
After that, you ascend to Kangzhuma and follow a gorgeous high track that winds around the slope above the Dudh Kosi River. Once more, the mountains across the valley are lovely to look at, especially Thamserku and Kang Taiga. Overnight, you descend into Namche.
Trek from Namche to Lukla
The last climb into Lukla by your memories of the setting, the communities, and the people of the high Khumbu hills and valleys. Finally, being able to drop a layer or two should be made possible by the milder weather. Still, enjoy the breathtaking views and the opportunity to unwind in the slightly warmer valley.
Following the main trail until it reaches Chablung, the route to Lukla branches off above Chaunrikharka and heads in that direction. At Chablung, signs point you in the direction of Lukla beyond the stream. Following a few bhattis and the school, the wide track ascends steadily to the left before passing through scrubby trees above Chaunrikharka’s school and homes.
Tamang Tole, a brand-new community not far from the airport, has a collection of houses and bhattis after a final, challenging ascent. Housing and lodging facilities multiply quickly as you get closer to the airport. You can finally unwind and sip a celebration beer when you arrive.
