A hike in the Atlas, particularly in the Moroccan High Atlas region, is an immersive experience between nature and culture. Leaving Marrakech, you quickly reach authentic Berber villages like Imlil, nestled at the foot of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. The hike often begins with trails winding through juniper and walnut forests, with panoramic views of deep valleys and snow-capped mountains in winter. As one progresses, one crosses rivers and traditional wooden bridges, encountering mules carrying provisions and locals in their typical clothing. The air is pure, and the silence is disturbed only by the song of birds or the sound of a distant river. The climb can be demanding in places, but it is always rewarding, especially as you approach viewpoints offering breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding mountains. Hikes can vary in length, from one day to several days, with breaks in lodges or locals' homes, where you can enjoy traditional dishes such as tagine and mint tea. In the evening, the mountains are tinged with golden colors, offering a peaceful and meditative ambiance before resting under a starry sky.
