The Ganja La Pass Trek is a highly popular destination for adventure enthusiasts in Nepal. Situated in the Langtang region northwest of Kathmandu Valley, it connects Langtang Valley with Helambu via a high pass known as Ganja La. This trek is renowned for its unique wilderness and adventurous spirit, offering encounters with Tibetan and Tamang villages, and panoramic views of the Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Yala Peak, Naya Kanga, and Gaurishanker. Trekkers also have the opportunity to ascend small peaks and visit glaciers at moderate altitudes. Post-monsoon, the trek offers breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung (7,246m), dominating the upper valley near the Tibetan border. During spring, the area becomes a haven for birdwatching and spotting Nepal's vibrant flora.

Itinerary

Day-7 Kyanjin Gompa exploration and acclimatization day
Today is a day to rest and travel around. Kyanjin Gompa is the most favored destination for acclimatization and exploration. After having our breakfast, we can visit the monastery and the cheese factory. Also, we can hike to Tserko Ri peak for the spectacular view of the entire Langtang valley and tantalizing peaks: Langtang Lirung, Yanga Tenji, Langtang range, and a few other peaks. Kyanjin Ri (4,850m/15,912ft) and Tserko Ri (5,000m/16,404ft) are the best viewpoints of Kyanjin. Overnight in a local guesthouse at Kyanjin Gompa
Day-8 Trek to Ganja La Phedi (4,300m/14,107ft)
After breakfast, we will embark on our journey for the day to Ganja La Phedi. Our trek to Ganja La Phedi is an exciting one as we cross the Langtang River and enter the evergreen blooming rhododendron forests. Being at a high altitude, the trek becomes challenging and adventurous. It may take longer to trek during winter because of the snow. Overnight in Ganja La Phedi.
Day-9 Trek to Keldang via Ganja La Pass
Maximum altitude: Ganja La Pass (5,122m/16,804ft) and Keldang (4,250m/13,943ft) Trekking hours: 6-7 hours This is the highlight of the trek. Today’s trek is effortful and challenging as we have to cross one of the difficult parts of the region and walk down to Keldang for shelter. After having a warm and heavy breakfast, we will ascend steeply up through an icy moraine alongside the glacier, and small lakes and reach Ganja La Pass on a rocky moraine. Enjoy the calm and comforting landscape, the thrilling icy trail of the pass, and the persuading view of the Langtang Range including the snow-clad mountain Langtang Lirung. The pass remains snow-covered all over the year, therefore while walking through the pass, stay alert and calm. From the pass, go down through a grassy meadow until you reach Keldang. Overnight in camp.
Day-10 Trek to Dukpu (4,040m/13,254ft)
After having a warm and delicious breakfast at Keldang, we will embark on our trek to Dukpu tracing the downhill route along the ridge. After descending for a few hours, the trail will follow the straight path through farmland and the tiny human settlement of Helambu Valley and eventually ascent to Dukpu through the dense forest. Dukpu is the non-human settlement where we will set camp inside the forest for today’s accommodation. Our helpers will cook warm and delicious food for us while we share the experience of Ganja La Trek as well as enjoy the night by singing and dancing alongside the firewood.
Day-11 Trek to Tarke Gyang (2,600m/8,530ft)
Maximum altitude: 2600m Trekking hours: 6-7 hours. We will enjoy our breakfast at the camp and then begin the trek from Dukpu to Tarke Gyang. Today, we will trek to the lower region through dense rhododendron and pine forest enjoying the spectacular view of Annapurna and Everest Region. After walking downhill for a few hours, the trail leads us to the lower village of Helambu Valley: Tarke Gyang. Overnight at the lodge of Tamang village, ‘Tarke Ghyang’.
Day-12 Trek to Shermathang (2,590m/8,497ft) and Drive back to Kathmandu
Today's trek from Tarke Gyang to Shermathang is shorter and easier, descending through dense forests with serene green surroundings and views of snow-capped mountains like Jugal Himal and Ganesh Himal. Shermathang, a Sherpa village, offers picturesque vistas of Langtang, the Rolwaling range, and even Mt. Everest. Wander its winding pathways lined with stone houses adorned with intricate wood carvings. Enjoy a meal prepared with local ingredients, reminiscing about the journey. Afterward, journey back to Kathmandu by vehicle, winding through mountain roads with Himalayan views. Return to Kathmandu to relax and unwind in the lively atmosphere of the capital city after your trekking adventure.
Day-13 Fly back home
After bidding you goodbye, you will be assisted to Tribhuwan International Airport for your next destination. Day-1 Arrival in Kathmandu
Welcome to Nepal, the land of the Himalayas. Our representative from Bold Himalaya will be waiting for your arrival at the airport. Then you will be conveyed to your respective hotel. You will have the rest of the day free to explore Kathmandu as you want. You can walk around vibrant Thamel and find yourself some classical local products to shop for. You can also visit restaurants and café and try out Nepali cuisine. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day-2 Kathmandu city excursion and trek preparation
Today, we will have a very relaxing day and visit some of the famous places in Kathmandu. We will visit the Pashupatinath Temple, which is located on the bank of the Bagmati River. We will also visit Bouddhanath Stupa which is the largest Stupa in Nepal and the holiest place for Buddhists. Swyambhunath, also called The Monkey Temple is another historical shrine of Nepal visible from all corners of the valley. We will also visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is a well-known UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later, we will start our preparation for trekking with a brief description as well as packing. Overnight at the hotel.
Day-3 Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi (2,380m/7,808ft)
We will be driving to Syabru Besi, a village with huge stone houses. It is about 122km away and 7 to 8 hours drive from Kathmandu. The road is winding and a little off-road. We will be driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline landscape to Syabru Besi passing over Dhunche. While passing along the road on the bank of the Trishuli River, we can catch a view of Ganesh Himal, terraces, and green hills. We will stop in a local guesthouse for the night
Day-4 Trek to Lama Hotel (2,560m/8,398ft)
We will be trekking for about 5 to 6 hours from Syabru Besi to lama hotel. The first part of the trail crosses through Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola and slowly climbs to Bamboo (1960m). Enjoy yourself in the rhododendron and bamboo forest. The view of terraced fields and dense forest with a variety of plants is perfect. We might come across some of the wildlife inhabitants- throated martin, wild boar, Langur monkey, red panda, and Himalayan black bear. The way crosses a stream and a steel suspension bridge at 2000 meters. The route will further lead us to the northern bank of Langtang Khola from where an ideal view of waterfalls comes to sight. Upon reaching the Lama Hotel, we will end the trek for the day.
Day-5 Trek to Langtang Village (3,400m/11,154ft)
Today, the way climbs up towards a steep forest slope to the Langtang River. The trail follows Gumanechok, Ghoda Tabela means the Horse Stable. We will be embraced by the stunning landscape of dense rhododendron forest, the exquisite Langtang River, and glimpses of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7243m). After this, the path is gradual with beautiful views into the valley of grazing Yaks. After some time, it descends into a valley, the path crosses a stream and climbs past several water-driven prayer wheels to the large settlement of Langtang. This is one of the oldest villages along this trekking route and the view from here is more astonishing as we get closer to the mountain. The rest of the day, we will walk around the village and stay overnight at a guesthouse
Day-6 Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,860m/12,664ft)
After a delicious breakfast in the morning, we will leave the Langtang village climbing the ridge topped by Chorten and Mani walls, made up of stone that has prayers inscribed on them. After crossing a few streams, the trail will gradually climb to Kyanjin Gompa through several yak-herding villages: Mundu, Sindum, and Yamaha. The majestic Kyanjin Gompa is encircled by alluring peaks: Langtang Lirung, Kyanjin Ri, Tserko Ri, and Naya Kangri which seem strenuously enchanting.
