The first day of the 5-day itinerary for the Langtang Valley Short Trek starts with an offroad drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. The drive will be a picturesque village that functions as the gateway to the Langtang region. Awe-inspiring landscapes of grassy hills, rushing rivers, and picturesque villages can be found along the 122-kilometer route.

You will prepare for the ascent to Rimche with lunch at Syabrubesi.

Drive from Kathmandu to Syarubesi, 7-8 hrs and trek to Rimche, 2-3 hrs

On the second day of your trek, you'll journey through the scenic Langtang Valley along the Langtang Khola for 6 to 7 hours. The trail features waterfalls, terraced fields, rhododendron, and pine forests. After passing Rimche Danda and ascending to the Lama Hotel, you'll encounter the rich wildlife of Langtang National Park, including snow leopards, red pandas, and musk deer. As you trek, enjoy stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and Yala Peak. You'll pass the remains of the old Langtang Village before reaching Thangshep and then the new Langtang settlement, your final stop for the day.

Trekking from Rimche to Langtang Village

On the third day of your Langtang trek, you'll journey from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa in 3-4 hours, ascending gradually through a path adorned with mani walls, prayer flags, and chortens towards Mundu. The route, lined with blooming rhododendron trees, takes you across a wooden bridge, offering stunning views of Langtang II, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa Himal, Tserko Ri, and Loenpo Gang. At Kyanjin Gompa, you'll explore ancient Buddhist monasteries and the Yak Cheese Factory, with the day ending by crossing a suspension bridge.

Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa

Today, we’ll begin early with a climb to Kyanjin Ri, a 2-3 hour trek offering stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Yubra, Changbu, Yala Peak, Tserko Ri, Langtang II, and the expansive Lirung Tsang Glacier. From the summit, we can take in the entire Langtang Valley, including Kyanjin Gompa. After soaking in the views and taking photos, we’ll descend to Kyanjin Gompa for a meal. Then, we’ll set off on a long 8-9 hour trek back to Rimche, where we’ll relax at a cozy teahouse, reflecting on the incredible memories made along the journey.

As our Langtang Valley Short Trek comes to an end, we will trek for 4 to 5 hours, enjoying the lush green landscapes and fresh air, before arriving back in Syabrubesi. After booking a local bus, we'll embark on a scenic drive back to Kathmandu, passing by majestic Himalayan peaks, waterfalls, and rivers, with stunning countryside views along the way. Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek.
The journey takes approximately 7-8 hours, passing through scenic landscapes.
Stay overnight in a teahouse in Syabrubesi.

Day 1: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,460 meters)

Begin the trek by crossing the Bhote Koshi River and following the Langtang Khola.
Pass through bamboo forests and small settlements.
Reach Lama Hotel, a cluster of teahouses, for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380 meters)

Continue the trek, ascending gradually through rhododendron and oak forests.
Pass by the village of Ghoda Tabela.
Arrive at Langtang Village, which was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake.
Stay overnight in Langtang Village.

Day 3: Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430 meters)

Trek through open meadows and yak pastures.
Reach Kyangjin Gompa, a picturesque settlement with a Buddhist monastery.
In the afternoon, you can explore the area, visit the cheese factory, and enjoy stunning mountain views.
Stay overnight in Kyangjin Gompa.

Day 4: Langtang Village to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870 meters)

Spend the day acclimatizing to the higher altitude.
Optionally, you can hike to Kyanjin Ri (4,773 meters) or Tserko Ri (4,984 meters) for panoramic views.
Return to Kyangjin Gompa for another night.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day in Kyangjin Gompa

Begin the descent back towards Lama Hotel.
Enjoy the familiar scenery on the way down.
Stay overnight in the Lama Hotel.

Day 6: Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

Continue the descent, passing through forests and villages.
Reach Syabrubesi, where you began your trek.
Celebrate the successful completion of your trek with your fellow trekkers.
Stay overnight in Syabrubesi.

Day 7: Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi

Drive back to Kathmandu, concluding your Langtang Valley Trek.
It's another 7-8 hours drive.
Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel.
Spend your evening relaxing or exploring Kathmandu city.

Day 8: Syabrubesi to Kathmandu

We will start our trip early in the morning after having our breakfast. Dhunche is the starting point of our actual trek to Gosaikunda. On the way, we will be able to enjoy the picturesque settlements, meadows, and snow-capped mountains like Mt. Annapurna II, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal along with the Langtang Himal. Through a mesmerizing scenic route along with boundless Trishuli River, it will take us around 5-6 hours to reach Dhunche. Dhunche is a small settlement area and the headquarters of Rasuwa District. After our entrance into Dhunche, we will roam around the village and spend our time with the locals. After spending an amazing evening with locals, we will stay overnight in a well-maintained Guest House.

Day-1 Drive to Dhunche

After breakfast in Dhunche, we'll start our trek toward Chandanwari, enjoying stunning views of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, and Tibetan mountains. The trail ascends steeply through oak, hemlock, and rhododendron forests. After roughly two hours, we'll reach Deurali (2,500m), a small village with a few tea houses. Continuing along a scenic trail with rivers and waterfalls, we'll hike for three more hours to reach Dhimsa (2,900m).

From Dhimsa, the climb becomes more challenging as we trek uphill through beautiful pine forests to Chandanwari (3,200m), also known as Sing Gompa. Here, we'll visit a Yak cheese factory and monasteries, sampling the delicious Yak cheese. The area offers expansive views of Langtang Mountain and Ganesh Himal. After a hearty meal with plenty of cheese, we'll spend the night in Chandanwari.

Day-2 Trek to Chandanbari

After a delicious breakfast in Chandanwari, we'll hike uphill to Gosaikunda (4,380m). Today's trek is more challenging, starting with a steep climb up a ridge transitioning from moist mountain forests to dry scrub vegetation, home to red pandas and offering views of snowcapped Ganesh Himal. After 1.5 hours, we'll reach Cholangpaty (3,500m) with close views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang Ri, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal. Two more hours of trekking will bring us to Lauribinayak (3,900m).

From Lauribinayak, we'll enjoy panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Langtang Ri. Another two-hour hike leads to the Sakyamuni temple, followed by a half-hour walk to Saraswati Kunda, Bhairav Kunda, and finally, the mighty Gosaikunda Lake. We'll explore the holy temples of Shiva Mandir, Gosaikunda Mahadev, and Trishul Dhara, visit nearby lakes, and spend the night in a tea house.

Day-3 Trek to Gosaikunda

Enjoying the beautiful morning, we will have our breakfast at the highest lake. We will dig into Gosaikunda and then retrace our steps downhill to Dhunche through Lauribinayak, Dhimsa, and Deurali. Today is the last day of the trek, so we will enjoy every bit of it. Enjoying the captivating views of mountains, pine forests, and the flavorful cheese of Chandanwari, we will be hiking downhill. Since we will be walking down, hiking will be a bit easier and more fun. We will also spot different protected birds in the pathway like Wood Snipe, Snow Patridge, Tibetan Snow Cock, etc. After walking for roughly 7 hours, we will reach Dhunche.

Day-4 Trek back to Dhunche

Today is the last day of our trip. After a tight sleep in one of the tea houses in Dhunche, we will have our delicious breakfast. We will drive to Kathmandu to enjoy the beauty of the immense Trishuli River, meadows, and picturesque settlements. After riding around 6-7 hours, we will reach Kathmandu. Our trip ends here. We will have a lot to cherish from the experience of this trek. The mighty Gosaikunda Lake, scenic trails, culturally enriched Tamang people, the Tibetan-influenced lifestyle, and the delicious Yak’s cheese will be something we will remember for a lifetime.
