The Langtang Valley Short Trek is ideal for travelers who want to experience the beauty of Nepal within a short time frame. It's a moderately challenging trek that begins with an early morning drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. From there, the first day's trek takes about 4-5 hours, ending at Rimche. On the second day, you'll cross the Langtang Khola and ascend towards Langtang Village, a picturesque location in the valley. The third day brings a gentle hike to Kyanjin Gompa, which takes just 3-4 hours. The highlight of the trek is on day four when you'll hike to Kyanjin Ri, a viewpoint offering breathtaking vistas of the valley. After 2-3 hours of hiking, you'll descend and trek back to Rimche. On the final day, you'll head back to Syabrubesi, trekking for 4-5 hours before taking a local bus back to Kathmandu, wrapping up this incredible adventure in the Langtang region.
Itinerary
Drive from Kathmandu to Syarubesi, 7-8 hrs and trek to Rimche, 2-3 hrs
The first day of the 5-day itinerary for the Langtang Valley Short Trek starts with an offroad drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. The drive will be a picturesque village that functions as the gateway to the Langtang region. Awe-inspiring landscapes of grassy hills, rushing rivers, and picturesque villages can be found along the 122-kilometer route.
You will prepare for the ascent to Rimche with lunch at Syabrubesi.
Trekking from Rimche to Langtang Village
On the second day of your trek, you'll journey through the scenic Langtang Valley along the Langtang Khola for 6 to 7 hours. The trail features waterfalls, terraced fields, rhododendron, and pine forests. After passing Rimche Danda and ascending to the Lama Hotel, you'll encounter the rich wildlife of Langtang National Park, including snow leopards, red pandas, and musk deer. As you trek, enjoy stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and Yala Peak. You'll pass the remains of the old Langtang Village before reaching Thangshep and then the new Langtang settlement, your final stop for the day.
Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa
On the third day of your Langtang trek, you'll journey from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa in 3-4 hours, ascending gradually through a path adorned with mani walls, prayer flags, and chortens towards Mundu. The route, lined with blooming rhododendron trees, takes you across a wooden bridge, offering stunning views of Langtang II, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa Himal, Tserko Ri, and Loenpo Gang. At Kyanjin Gompa, you'll explore ancient Buddhist monasteries and the Yak Cheese Factory, with the day ending by crossing a suspension bridge.
Early morning hike to Kyanjin Ri and back to Kyanjin Gompa then trekking down to Rimche
Today, we’ll begin early with a climb to Kyanjin Ri, a 2-3 hour trek offering stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Yubra, Changbu, Yala Peak, Tserko Ri, Langtang II, and the expansive Lirung Tsang Glacier. From the summit, we can take in the entire Langtang Valley, including Kyanjin Gompa. After soaking in the views and taking photos, we’ll descend to Kyanjin Gompa for a meal. Then, we’ll set off on a long 8-9 hour trek back to Rimche, where we’ll relax at a cozy teahouse, reflecting on the incredible memories made along the journey.
Trek from Rimche to Syabrubesi and drive back to Kathmandu
As our Langtang Valley Short Trek comes to an end, we will trek for 4 to 5 hours, enjoying the lush green landscapes and fresh air, before arriving back in Syabrubesi. After booking a local bus, we'll embark on a scenic drive back to Kathmandu, passing by majestic Himalayan peaks, waterfalls, and rivers, with stunning countryside views along the way.
