Calving Of Wildebeest Adventure

Submit Review
The Great Wildebeest Calving Migration Safari has been designed specifically to focus on following the Great Serengeti Wildebeest migration during calving from December to April. The main focus area are Lake Ndutu area, as well as the Southern and Central areas of Serengeti National Park where the majority of the wildebeest are usually found. The Southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas in Tanzania are the best locations for the months of January, February and March to witness thousands of wildebeest spread across the plains grazing on the rich short grass plains. Predator action is at its peak with great sightings of cheetah, lion, hyena and leopard and a very good chance to see adrenalin-packed kills.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) by your driver/guide and our representative. He will take you to Arusha town. Your safari will start on the next day. Accommodation at The African Tulip  on half board basis.

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park for game viewing drive with picnic lunches. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of African animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos, attracted by the algae in the lake. Later in the afternoon, drive to your lodge in Karatu Area. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Farm House. Full board basis

Day 3: Ndutu Area
After breakfast, head to Lake Ndutu Area, situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, part of the southern Serengeti eco-system. Lake Ndutu is alkaline, like most of the other Rift lakes, however the water is still drinkable and used by a wide array of local wildlife.

Afternoon game drive in the Ndutu Area with picnic lunches. The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to March. The area is usually heavily populated with elephant, birds and resident game. Dinner and overnight at Ndutu Heritage Camp. Full board basis.

Day 4+5: Ndutu Area
After breakfast, enjoy full days of game drives in the Ndutu Area. Explore the range of different habitats that include swamps, woodland, soda lakes and the world famous short grass plains. See great herds of wildebeest and zebra. During a short time frame around February, normally lasting for about 3 weeks, the majority of the wildebeest calve. The sea of grass provides little cover and the young are easy pickings for a variety of predators. Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they are born and within 3 days they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Ndutu Heritage Camp. Full board basis.

Day 6: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park. This enormous park supports every variety of animals imaginable; from large predators such as lion, leopard and cheetah to the smaller herbivores they prey on. Afternoon game viewing drive with picnic lunches. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Heritage Camp. Full board basis.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park
Breakfast at the camp followed by game drives in the park. You may return to your lodge for a sumptuous lunch to gather strength for the afternoon game drive or you leave with picnic lunch for a full day of game drives. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Heritage Camp. Full board basis.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro and descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater - often described as one of the wonders of the world. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. With a bit of luck the ‘Big Five’ can be spotted during one game drive only. Dinner and overnight at Marera View Lodge in Karatu Area. Full board basis.

After breakfast, drive back to Arusha town. Hot lunch at a restaurant in townbefore proceeding to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight to Zanzibar or back home. End of our services!
